COTRELL is an ExtraBold sans serif display font, suitable for posters, advertising, logos, headlines, signage and greeting cards. I found the original metal typeface, Matthews, in Specimen Book and Catalog, published by the Inland Type Foundry (May 1902). It appears to be in the public domain. I suppressed Matthews boisterous swashes in several glyphs to give COTRELL a more contemporary feel; the lower case f and g" were redesigned for the same reason. (N.B.: the swashes for e, h m and n have right angled alternates for the more cautious typographer.)
COTRELL has 482 glyphs, including 182 discretionary ligatures. In my work as a graphic designer I always found these extremely useful, especially for logo design. (A caveat, however: many of the ligatures are experimental, violating the baseline and once even the cap height. Use at your own risk. And take note of the reversed R.)
